Join us as an AEB Adult Skills Tutor/Assessor (English) and help adults strengthen core literacy and communication for work and everyday life. Lead the full learner journey, from initial assessment and ILPs to personalised teaching, clear feedback and accredited achievement in Functional Skills English and related literacy programmes, while ensuring JCQ/awarding body compliance, safeguarding and continuous improvement.
You will plan and deliver English across Entry Level to Level 2, building reading fluency, writing accuracy and structure (spelling/grammar/punctuation), and confident speaking & listening; set targets, track progress, and prepare learners for assessments and portfolios using real-world texts (e.g., workplace documents, forms and digital platforms). You will also manage core admin/funding and collaborate to support IAG, employability and positive progression.
What you will do:
- Conduct effective initial assessment for referred learners, identifying accurate starting points and designing appropriate Individual Learning Plans.
- Deliver engaging personalised learning so that all learners make progress and achieve their individual goals.
- Deliver accredited qualifications and wider learning in accordance with awarding body and Standguide policies and procedures.
- Assess and monitor learner progress in line with company policies and procedures, intervening where necessary to ensure that all learners achieve their full potential.
- Prepare learners for summative assessment, including controlled assessment, external test and portfolio submission.
- Maintain rigour in qualification assessment, working within JCQ and awarding body regulations regarding handling of secure materials, administration of assessment and procedures for results and resits as required.
What you will need:
- Appropriate teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE.
- Functional Skills tutors: subject and teaching qualifications to Level 5 minimum.
- Knowledge and experience of adult education.
- Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding and Prevent.
- Experience of successful delivery of accredited qualifications.
- Level 2 English and Maths as a minimum.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and computer literate.
- Ability to use administrative systems and procedures to manage the learner journey.
- Clean driving licence and full-time access to car as this role requires travel.
