Key responsibilities and duties:
- Strategic Communications & Change Support: Develop and deliver a clear UK internal communications strategy aligned to business priorities, transformation activity and cultural objectives. Lead communications for organisational change, restructures and people initiatives ensuring messages are clear, consistent and appropriately sequenced. Translate complex, sensitive topics into simple, accurate communications that land well with employees and minimise confusion and maximise trust.
- Leadership Communications: Partner with the UK senior leadership team to support effective, confident and appropriate communication with employees. Coach leaders on how to effectively communicate difficult messages, reducing reliance on reactive HR intervention. Support leadership forums, Town Halls and cascades with strong narrative, consistent messaging and materials.
- Employee Engagement & Listening: Design and deliver practical engagement approaches that help leaders understand employee sentiment and respond appropriately. Work closely with HR to ensure engagement insights inform leadership decisions, communications and people plans. Promote consistency and fairness in messaging across functions and sites.
- Risk Mitigation & Governance: Ensure communications are aligned with employment law, company policy and best practice. Partner with HR and Legal on sensitive communications to ensure tone, content and process are robust.
- Operational Effectiveness: Create repeatable, efficient communication processes and templates to reduce ad-hoc drafting, rework and dependency on senior leaders. Act as single point of accountability for UK internal communications, avoiding fragmentation and inconsistency. Work with Global Communications function to ensure alignment while addressing UK specific needs.
Experience: Significant experience in internal communications, leading change communications and engagement initiatives within a complex organisation. Proven ability to work with senior leaders and influence decision making and strategy. Strong judgement, emotional intelligence and discretion when handling sensitive issues. Ability to translate complex or technical matters into clear, accessible language. Experience in engineering, aviation or defence is beneficial but not essential.
Professional Qualifications/Education and Training: CIPR Communication Diploma or equivalent.
Personal Attributes: Calm, credible and trusted under pressure. Pragmatic and commercially minded, focused on outcomes. Comfortable operating independently and bringing structure where needed. Resilient and confident, able to challenge constructively.
