The Opportunity
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Aeronautical Engineering Technician Apprentice (Level 3) to join our skilled engineering team in Gosport. As an apprentice Aeronautical Engineering Technician (Mechanical), you will carry out hands‑on technical mechanical maintenance activities on live aircraft, aid in equipment disassembly/assembly and installations, all while honing your fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities. You will gain practical, hands‑on experience in mechanical engineering while working towards a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.
What You’ll Learn and Do
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks on aircraft and components
- Perform basic maintenance activities including inspections, component removal and installation, defect rectification, and strip and build of gas turbine engines
- Interpret and work from aircraft maintenance manuals (AMM), illustrated parts catalogues (IPC), engineering drawings, specifications and process documentation
- Use hand tools, power tools, ground support equipment, and test equipment safely and effectively
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation, work cards, and job records in accordance with company and regulatory procedures
Training & Qualifications
You will complete a Level 3 Aircraft Maintenance Technician apprenticeship. Training will include a combination of on‑the‑job learning at our site in Gosport and off‑the‑job study with the training provider CEMAST at their engineering workshop in Lee‑on‑the‑Solent (day release).
Entry Requirements
- At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above, which must include Maths, English and Science
- Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- A strong mechanical aptitude and interest in engineering
- Good attention to detail and a practical, hands‑on approach
- Willingness to learn, follow instructions and develop technical skills
- A positive attitude and a strong work ethic
- Strong verbal communication and written skills
- Ability to work safely and responsibly in a workshop environment
