This role will be based in our London office with some flexibility to work between the office and home. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

The Opportunity: If you’re someone who is looking for a highly commercial and visible role, with an opportunity to contribute directly to the delivery of reinsurance solutions across both flow and facultative transactions, Standard Life could be the place for you. We’re looking for a Reinsurance Actuary to join our Reinsurance & Structuring team within the Retirement Solutions & Asset Management (RS&AM) team. This is a key role within the team that will support an active live pipeline, play a key role in structuring and executing transactions, and collaborate widely across actuarial, commercial, pricing, and senior leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Reinsurance Deal Delivery: Support sourcing and assessment of reinsurance solutions (flow and facultative) to secure optimal commercial outcomes. Contribute to structuring and project‑managing live reinsurance transactions. Perform analytical assessments to evaluate the commercial viability of longevity swaps and funded reinsurance transactions. Develop recommendations to strengthen transaction strategy and maximise success in competitive processes.
- Governance, Risk & Documentation: Support negotiation and documentation activities throughout deal execution. Assist in onboarding new reinsurance arrangements and ensuring compliance with governance standards. Support senior stakeholder briefing including approval papers and help take colleagues along the journey where new developments or approaches are introduced.
- Process Improvement & Strategic Development: Enhance, streamline and embed efficient processes across reinsurance activities. Maintain awareness of SII, Matching Adjustment and implications for reinsurance structuring. Contribute to expanding reinsurance capability within the team and across the business.
What We’re Looking For
- Technical Skills & Experience (Essential): Experience in structuring and executing reinsurance or de‑risking transactions, with solid commercial acumen. Strong analytical and technical aptitude, particularly in data manipulation, cashflow modelling, and longevity experience analysis. Strong data‑wrangling capability and experience handling large datasets. Strong knowledge of insurer balance sheets, the BPA market, longevity underwriting or DB de‑risking.
- Qualifications (Essential): Qualified Actuary, with experience in the pension or life specialism.
- Personal Attributes: Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑moving environment and deliver to tight deadlines. Excellent communication, time management and stakeholder‑management skills. A collaborative and proactive approach, with a willingness to contribute to continuous improvement.
