Location: This role could be based in either our Birmingham, Edinburgh or London offices with time spent working in the office and at home.
Flexible working: All roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

Responsibilities:
- Act as a trusted legal adviser to the business, delivering clear, practical and commercially focused advice across a broad range of commercial and corporate matters.
- Support the business in making timely and informed decisions, taking ownership of work within your areas of expertise while receiving guidance and supervision as you grow in others.
- Manage legal risk in line with Phoenix Group’s legal risk policy, ensuring that issues are identified early, assessed effectively and communicated clearly.
- Draft and review a wide range of legal documentation, ensuring it is concise, robust and aligned with business needs.
- Build strong working relationships across the organisation, collaborating closely with colleagues in the General Counsel function, senior stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Engage with external legal counsel, ensuring advice is cost‑effective and adds value.
- Stay up to date with relevant legal and regulatory developments, proactively maintaining your technical knowledge and continuing professional development in accordance with SRA or Law Society of Scotland requirements.
Qualifications:
- Qualified, or within six months of qualifying, as an English or Scottish solicitor, typically 0–4 PQE with experience in the financial services industry.
- Strong drafting, reviewing and negotiating skills across commercial agreements.
- Ability to identify and escalate legal risks and provide clear, commercially focused advice.
- Excellent relationship‑building skills, with the confidence to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the General Counsel function, senior stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Ability to manage your workload, meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality outputs.
