Standard Chartered Bank is an inclusive employer and a member of myGwork. Assurance is a second line defence function established under a delegated mandate from the Group Chief Risk Officer and the Group Head of Conduct, Financial Crime and Compliance (CFCR). The primary role of Assurance is to provide a risk‑based independent view to senior management, second line and the Board on the effectiveness of the bank’s policies, processes, systems and controls, identifying gaps and inefficiencies and enabling prompt corrective action. This function supports the bank’s reasonable steps in accordance with SMF 4, 16 & 17 responsibilities.

The Director of CFCR Assurance operates within a globally integrated and fungible operating model, working closely with others in the CFCR Assurance team to deliver assurance reviews within the CFCR remit. The role can be based in either GBS United Kingdom (London) or GBS Poland (Warsaw). There are currently two vacancies available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Co‑Lead to deliver a strategy for risk‑based and data‑enabled assurance coverage across CFCR Assurance, aligned to the bank’s risk profile, regulatory expectations and internal commitments.
  • Drive a collaborative risk and control ecosystem across the three Lines of Defence, including effective reliance and remediation tracking.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in assurance delivery, with consistent methodology application, strong documentation and evidence standards, and timely reporting and escalation.
  • Assist in delivering the assurance plan and book of work to ensure alignment to CFCR Assurance priorities.
  • Maintain a strong quality culture across planning, fieldwork, reporting and issue validation.
  • Stay informed of CFCR Assurance regulatory expectations, internal policies/standards and best practices in risk management, control testing and assurance.
  • Work closely with teams across the three Lines of Defence, building good relationships and engaging with 1LoD testing teams and Risk owners.
  • Follow the Group’s policies and standards, including how we carry out assurance work, track issues and keep documentation clear.
  • Support the delivery of a dynamic plan that focuses assurance activity on areas of highest risk and greatest potential impact, including thematic work across geographies where appropriate.
  • Communicate issues and testing insights clearly to senior stakeholders, through concise reporting, escalation and remediation validation.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong assurance, risk and control testing, and regulatory inspection experience within a banking environment.
  • Substantial experience in the banking industry, including demonstrated success in a similar role across a range of risk areas.
  • Experience optimising processes, including via the use of technology.
  • Strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and personal authority based on trusted relationships.
  • Strategic vision for the function and ability to explain complex risk terms in business language.
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and management of complex, highly matrixed organisations.
  • Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across country, region, business and group stakeholders.
  • Strong drive, high levels of integrity, independence and enthusiasm.
  • Strong expertise in data analytics, AI, automation and technology risk management in banking.
  • Strong presentation skills, sound judgement and courage of conviction.
  • Experience in leading transformations in risk and control testing/audit/assurance (asset).
