We are seeking an experienced Senior Credit Officer to join our exciting global Specialised Finance Risk team at Standard Chartered Bank. The role will have a primary focus on data centre exposures and will be based in either New York or London. The successful candidate will work with the Chief Credit Officer and other colleagues to drive the risk management of the bank’s origination, underwriting and portfolio. The Specialised Finance Risk team focuses on clients in the following segments: Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, Project and Export Finance, Structured Credit, Transportation, Commercial Real Estate and Underwriting.
Key Responsibilities
- Make final credit decisions and rating assessments using subject‑matter expertise.
- Risk‑manage a portfolio of unique counterparties and exposures with early‑stage detection of credit deterioration, including stress testing.
- Work actively with the Bank’s business teams to promote revenue growth while protecting Standard Chartered Bank against downside risks through identification, investigation, mitigation and management of risks.
- Engage in early‑stage deal screening and due diligence of new sponsors, borrowers and transactions, analysing complex situations to find solutions and influencing deal structuring for best‑in‑class underwriting standards.
- Present periodic portfolio and industry reviews with senior stakeholders and risk partners.
- Design, maintain and effectively communicate risk control parameters to keep the risk profile in line with the Group’s risk appetite.
Skills And Experience
- Sector experience in Commercial Real Estate and Project Finance.
- Ability to make credit‑risk decisions or recommendations with semi‑complete information, forming a sound, well‑grounded credit view under compression.
- Effective engagement with borrowers and sponsors.
- Stakeholder‑management experience and ability to express and communicate a credit opinion, both written and orally.
- Detailed understanding of creditor documentation.
- Strong ability to assess a diverse range of counterparties, asset classes, hedging products and credit scenarios.
- Proficiency in stress testing.
- Holistic risk assessment and evaluation.
Qualifications
- Significant expertise in project finance and leverage finance.
- Substantial experience at the highest level in the banking industry, with a demonstrated track record in a similar role within the same product or business area.
- Track record of successful risk management, able to manage risk across geographically dispersed and highly varied product bases.
- Strong and agile understanding of credit risk, financial analysis and structuring, applied in lending decisions for single‑counterparty credit risk appetite, typically gained from an investment bank or structured‑finance group.
- Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the bank operates, and the relevant regulatory requirements and expectations.
- Significant relationship‑management experience with external stakeholders at senior levels, including regulators.
- A desire to grow and learn.
