This role could be based in the UK and Singapore. The Global Head of Global Markets Trading Operations and In-Country Operational Oversight is a senior leadership role responsible for the end-to-end oversight, governance, and performance of global trading operations across all asset classes and regions. This role ensures that trading operations are resilient, scalable, compliant with local and global regulatory requirements, and aligned with the firm’s strategic objectives. The role combines global functional ownership of trading operations with strong in-country operational oversight, partnering closely with Global Markets COO, front office, technology, risk, compliance, and regional management teams to deliver best-in-class operational support for Global Markets.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy
  • Risk Management – The incumbent will be responsible to drive and contribute to the design of the Markets Risk Management framework and strategy with specific focus on Intraday Controls framework across products and regions.
  • Operational Efficiency – The role holder is responsible to design and drive the execution of a strategic framework (operating model simplification, automation and technology, process consolidations, right shoring and outsourcing etc) to enable FM to meet ROTE and T&O targets.
  • Client Experience – The incumbent will contribute in designing, in partnership with Markets COO and Global Sales and Tiered Service Model proposition to enable FM growth and revenue targets.
  • In-Country FM Operations Strategy – The incumbent will drive the design and execution of the In-Country strategy for FM Operations with a clear objective to simplify the way we conduct business across local markets in the East and West part of our global network.
  • Drive a rigorous digitisation of functional activities with a focus on self-service and data capture around usage to drive insights.
  • Drive continuous improvement and the operational efficiency of processes to ensure the client is at the centre of all we do, optimise and increase scalability and improve efficiency.
  • Work with direct reports and other stakeholders to support the delivery of Ops strategy and Group strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis – incorporating infrastructure and technology requirements.
  • Deliver the service delivery model to embed sustainable processes.
  • Business Global Trading Operations Leadership
    • Provide global leadership and strategic direction for trading operations across all asset classes (e.g., Rates, FX, Credit, Equities, Commodities).
    • Own the global trading operations operating model, including process design, control frameworks, service delivery, and performance management.
  • In-Country Operational Oversight
    • Maintain strong in-country oversight of trading operations to ensure compliance with local regulatory, legal, and market infrastructure requirements.
    • Act as a senior escalation point for country-specific operational, regulatory, or control issues.
    • Partner with local management, Compliance, Legal, and Risk to ensure effective governance and regulatory engagement at the country level.

    • Ensure alignment between global standards and local execution, managing regulatory divergence where required.
    • Ensure consistent, efficient, and scalable operational processes across regions while allowing for local market requirements.
    • Drive continuous improvement, automation, and digital transformation initiatives across trading operations.
  • People & Talent
    • Lead, develop, and inspire a global team across multiple regions and time zones.
    • Build a strong leadership bench with clear succession planning.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, risk awareness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion across the global trading operations organization.
  • Risk Management
    • Own the trading operations control environment, including operational risk management, reconciliations, breaks management, incident management, and issue remediation.
    • Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
    • Lead responses to internal and external audits, regulatory exams, and control reviews related to trading operations.
    • Establish and maintain strong governance forums, metrics, and reporting frameworks.
  • Regulatory & Business Conduct
    • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
    • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
    • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
  • Key Stakeholders
    • Act as a key partner to Global Markets COO and front office leadership, providing operational insight and enabling business growth.
    • Collaborate closely with Technology on platform stability, change delivery, and strategic investment priorities.
    • Work with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, and Legal to ensure integrated decision-making and execution.
    • Represent Trading Operations at senior management committees and forums.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, business, economics, or a related discipline required.
    • Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.

    Role Specific Technical Competencies

    • Extensive senior leadership experience in Global Markets / Trading Operations within a large, complex financial institution.
    • Demonstrated experience managing global teams and operating models across multiple jurisdictions.
    • Strong knowledge of global financial markets, trading lifecycle, and post-trade processes.
    • Proven experience with regulatory environments across major financial centers (e.g., US, MEA, AP).
    • Deep understanding of operational risk, controls, and governance frameworks.
    • Strong change management, transformation, and technology-enablement experience.
