Assist Regional Head CPM and Head Stressed Asset Group to implement the strategy for CPM as it relates to management of stressed exposures across Europe & Americas region. Stressed exposures include legacy CG 13 and CG 14 exposures, with CG 12 exposures under co-management with Frontline. Ensure adherence to CPM business conduct framework in implementing this strategy. Reinforce first line ownership of risk in managing emergent risks in the Europe & Americas CIB portfolio, ensure timely detection and mitigation, and collaborate with Risk, FM/Banking teams to manage down the stressed asset portfolio to improve RoTE for CIB and the Group.

Provide transparency on the cost and risk of mitigation actions and the underlying decision making, feeding data into CIB’s data/credit modelling regimes. Monitor the overall CIB credit risk portfolio with CPM Regional Heads to reduce exposures through secondary distribution and/or hedging, thereby reducing concentration risk and freeing regulatory capital. Optimise the portfolio while maintaining risk tolerance.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Develop clear milestones to measure progress of the Stressed Asset Group’s strategy for Europe & Americas; maintain the Stressed Asset Group execution tracker for regional portfolio progress. Challenge and support impairment forecasts by First Line based on external environment; balance judgement where needed. Develop team skill sets in Structured Finance, Project Finance, Leverage Finance and CRE.
  • Business Drive financial performance against targets including RoRWA/RoTE and RWA targets for CIB. Improve efficiency, speed, and productivity of capital for the stressed asset portfolio and broader CIB balance sheet. Reinforce first-line ownership of risk and origination discipline / Risk Management. Support early action and analytics by providing likely credit migration scenarios and assist exposure management within the good book before downgrades to stressed. Collaborate with RM teams to determine credit risk grades and provisioning on stressed assets in the region. Work with frontline teams and other risk partners to adhere to CG12 and CG13/14 Roles & Responsibility documents and Problem Accounts Management Standards. Ensure material impairments and related issues are reported to Regional Head CPM, Head SAG, and relevant risk governance committees. Minimise risk related to litigation, environmental claims, regulatory censure, or reputational loss in regard to stressed assets. Provide feedback to frontline teams on improvements in origination, documentation, or early problem recognition.
  • Reduce P&L volatility while managing returns Drive continuous improvement of operational efficiency and standardisation of processes. Assess data availability and integrity; adapt mandate for governance and resolution. Set strategic objectives and performance measures, including break-even RoTE for mitigation actions and cover ratio for stressed assets.
  • Optimise liquidity and capital resources to support CIB growth Align global priorities with local balance sheet realities while undertaking mitigation actions; raise awareness through proactive engagement.
  • Processes Support and manage CPM processes allocated to the CEO, CIB by the Group process universe within risk and governance frameworks. Implement policies & controls set by risk control owners; ensure compliance and risk appetite alignment. Ensure a framework for effective operational risk management within Stressed Asset Group and compliance with applicable policies and laws.
  • Risk Management Ensure risk appetite and reputational/credit risks are managed with direct reports and stakeholders. Adhere to regulatory and compliance standards, including AML requirements. Resolve audit and compliance issues promptly; escalate risk matters to relevant risk committees as needed.
  • Regulatory & Business Conduct Display exemplary conduct and uphold the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. Embed highest standards of ethics and regulatory compliance across the Bank. Identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters; include standard local regulatory responsibilities where applicable.
  • Key stakeholders Internal: Regional/Country Client Coverage Heads, Risk, Product Heads, CFOs, Regional Chief Risk Officers, HR, Legal, Compliance. External: SAGs at other financial institutions, funds and portfolio teams, regulators, external lawyers/accountants.
  • Other Responsibilities Leverage CSR opportunities to enhance the Group’s reputation and bottom line. Promote the Group’s brand with clients, stakeholders and regulators. Perform other responsibilities per Group, Country, Business or Functional policies.
  • People & Talent Lead by example, set culture and values for the Stressed Asset Group; collaborate with risk and control partners. Provide effective leadership, communicate vision, and build commitment to priorities. Ensure staff have clear objectives aligned to performance reviews and accountability.

Skills and Experience Financial Analysis, Financial Statement analysis, Business markets, Capital management, Commercial Loan review, Portfolio Management, Financial Products and Markets, ALM, Legal analysis.

Qualifications Graduate qualifications (MBA, CFA, Chartered Accountancy, Mathematics/Statistics, Lawyer) and over 20 years of experience in banking/FS, underwriting and recoveries across regions. Experience in Structured Finance, Project Finance, Leverage Finance and CRE; knowledge of credit risk, portfolio and balance sheet management; credit products and securitisation.
