Our preference is for this role to be based in UAE – Dubai, but strong applicants may be based in London. Responsible for the loan syndicate and distribution business for borrowers across Sub‑Saharan Africa, working with SSA clients including sovereigns, SOEs, FIs, multilaterals, and corporate clients to structure and distribute landmark syndicated loan transactions.
Responsibilities
- Strategy - Ensure awareness and understanding of CIB’s and FM’s strategy and objectives globally, as well as the specific objectives and strategic priorities of the Loan Syndicate and Financing Risk business.
- Business - Help deliver the Regions and the overall Global TPI budget. Develop relationships with the loan investor universe to achieve primary and secondary distribution volume targets while maximising skim income. Assist in reducing stick positions through sales and distribution across our footprints. Maintain compliance with standards. Assist senior directors in reviewing structure, timing, pricing to market, and executing the distribution strategies of primary syndicated loans. Independently lead syndicate and structuring thoughts alongside origination teams. Bookrunning of transactions while ensuring stakeholders are updated consistently on the primary syndication process. Assist via bookrunning other regions’ transactions while ensuring stakeholders are updated consistently. Distribution of secondary loans to bank and non‑bank investors for the Bank alongside Portfolio Management. Provide loan market intelligence to product partners. Adhere to and promote governance, compliance and risk standards. Provide pricing feedback to various teams in Global Capital Markets as requested. Provide market intelligence to contribute to underwriting decisions and help monitor underwriting risk. Manage the team’s market comps and transactional database with analytical output provided to the wider team as required. Manage the team’s internal reporting presentations and loan market updates. Manage the team’s deal reporting to external agencies for league tables.
- Processes - Provide syndication support to product partners on various transactions. Draft T&C offer sheets per transaction ensuring accuracy and compliance with Legal & Compliance. Ensure timely and accurate submission of Deal Ticket Submissions, and input secondary sales into the Deal ticket system. Assist originations in preparing client pitchbooks and RFP responses as needed. Support the team in preparing internal performance review presentations. Capture feedback from investors in the respective Excel sheets.
- People & Talent - Build appropriate culture and values, set tone and expectations, collaborating with risk and control partners. Contribute to continuous process improvement and share best practice. Collaborate with other Financing Risk team members and other internal RM/product team members.
- Risk Management - Responsible for underwriting, syndication and distribution of syndicated loans. Limit stick positions on underwritten positions. Ensure syndication and distribution are within the Group’s risk appetite, managing credit and reputational risk. Adhere to compliance standards including Private‑Public Information Walls, Market Sounding, etc.
- Governance - Awareness of the regulatory framework and relevant regulatory requirements. Deliver effective governance; challenge senior executives effectively; work with local regulators cooperatively. Accountable for escalation from Loan Syndicate & Distribution to senior management, risk or control functions.
- Regulatory & Business Conduct - Display exemplary conduct, live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. Embed the highest standards of ethics and comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and the Group Code of Conduct. Lead the Loan Syndicate Africa team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles. Identify, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters collaboratively.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a high‑calibre candidate with a strong investment banking background, ideally with hands‑on experience in loan syndication and international distribution. Prior exposure to emerging markets is strongly preferred; while Africa experience is advantageous, it is not essential.
Technical Skill Set
- Excellent drafting skills (credit papers, memos, proposals).
- Deal analysis and structuring experience.
- Sound judgment around pricing and liquidity.
- Ability to contribute across complex transactions (Leveraged Finance / Project Finance / Structured and bespoke financing solutions).
