Overview

Director, Credit Trading, Central Credit Unit (CCU) at Standard Chartered. The role sits in a buy-side portfolio under Markets, Credit Trading. The portfolio deploys part of the bank’s liquidity and capital into spread products, mainly in credit, to enhance returns. The team optimises deployment through strategic and opportunistic investing across geographies and currencies into investment-grade bonds.

  • Markets, Credit Trading provides solutions for clients through various products across regions.
  • The Central Credit Unit sits as a buy-side portfolio and deploys balance sheet, capital and liquidity to optimise returns and generate revenue in high-quality investment-grade spread assets.

Business

  • Responsibility includes managing and delivering appropriate returns on the CCU Portfolio, optimising the use of liquidity and capital across the bank through purchases and sales of spread securities.
  • Identify opportunities in the spread bond market across asset types to meet RoRWA return hurdles, minimise risk and volatility, and maintain portfolio diversification.
  • End-to-end portfolio management from execution to booking and pricing, including MTM and credit risk management in a timely manner.
  • Manage rates risk in the CCU portfolio considering the total rates risk across CT.
  • Assist CT in developing and executing a strategy for optimal use of financial resources including leverage, funding, and RWAs to maximise ROTe for the bank.
  • Risk-manage non-linear interest rate risk through econ hedging.
  • Generate value by capturing medium-term ranges in dollar rates through dynamic swaps in the FVOCI book.
  • Macro analysis and model development for tracking key variables.
  • Trade idea generation across sovereigns, credit, and MBS; create signalling tools and fair value calculators to aid idea generation.

Processes

  • CT business and risk management processes are defined and governed in risk, governance and control committees.
  • Help establish and maintain frameworks to ensure processes are efficient, appropriate and compliant with internal and external regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • People & Talent: Assist in training CCU and CT team members on running an investment portfolio from booking to pricing and risk management, with emphasis on rates.
  • Risk Management: Actively manage risk on the CCU portfolio, monitoring market and credit risks across rates and credit; consider concentrations by sector and geography and capital impacts from positions and portfolio view.
  • Governance: Manage extensive governance requirements from booking trades, sign-off, and maintain compliance with SCB risk and regulatory framework; complete required e-learning on time.
  • Regulatory & Business Conduct: Display exemplary conduct and uphold Group Values and Code of Conduct; ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines; escalate and mitigate risk as needed.

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience in the banking industry, including a demonstrated track record in a similar role.
  • Sharp business acumen (risk and return), excellent interpersonal skills and multi-cultural awareness.
  • Ability to work with geographically dispersed stakeholders.
  • At least 1–3 years of relevant experience in Structured Credit Trading.
