The Structured Solutions vertical of the Commercial Real Estate Finance team originates, structures, and syndicates debt opportunities across Commercial Real Estate (CRE), Corporate, and Infrastructure sectors for European and US assets and/or borrowers. The role will particularly be focused on further developing the Structured Solutions loans business across Global Banking. The role holder is responsible for originating, structuring, and executing debt opportunities for SCB clients across Europe and the US. The primary focus will be on Commercial Real Estate clients and transactions with particular responsibilities for transactions which will potentially be distributed through more structured routes, including mezzanine lending, repacks, or via public/private securitisation structures (e.g., CMBS, CLO, ABS, CLN etc).
Key Responsibilities
- Identify financing opportunities (primarily in the loan market) for core and prospect clients across Europe and the US.
- Continue development of SCB European CRE lending and Structured Solutions business, originating from European and US-based clients and also financing opportunities on European assets or subsidiaries for clients from other regions.
- Prepare and deliver proposals to clients on identified origination scenarios to maximise SCB involvement in loan opportunity and any related business (e.g., hedging / DCM).
- Originate and execute loan financings from inception to completion, which will include credit analysis, structuring, documentation, working with Financing Risk on distribution and management of internal booking processes.
- Expand and develop additional distribution channels including structured and synthetic loan sales and repacks, working in cooperation with other Global Banking teams such as Debt Capital Markets or Financing Risk.
Additional Responsibilities
- Execution of loan transactions for European and US opportunities, including work on client pitches, drafting offer letters and term sheets, underwriting applications, information memoranda, roadshow presentations, documentation, and responding to queries from banks during the syndication process.
- Developing investor base in partnership with the Loan Syndicate and Distribution team.
- Supporting junior team members on financial/credit analysis of financing opportunities, preparing summaries and analysis of key risks, and preparation of credit applications.
- Manage deal execution process end-to-end on originated transactions.
- Negotiate deal documentation including coordinating with internal legal and external legal counsel.
- Review and challenge deal due diligence information, including valuations, technical diligence, and tax/financial structuring.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure deal execution and closing within the required timeframe.
- Lead by example and build the appropriate culture and values, setting appropriate tone and expectations from their team and working in collaboration with risk and control partners.
- Be an effective agent of change and a role model within the bank.
- Develop a people culture which encourages and champions change among employees in the daily workplace.
- Able to share and advise on best practices and emerging developments.
Education and Training
- Degree or postgraduate qualifications.
- Prior relevant experience in investment banking with a track record is desirable.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment and on a self-directed basis.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Licenses and Membership
- Regulated role.
- CFA or AMCT qualification useful but not mandatory.
- English and additional European language desirable.
