Job Summary
The role of Group Public and Regulatory Affairs (GPRA) is to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, driving the alignment of the Bank’s strategy and global public policy, regulatory and supervisory objectives. The remit of the Group covers policy, regulatory and supervisory issues in key markets and developing engagement strategies to position the Bank constructively.

GPRA Structure
GPRA is organized into three teams:

  • Government Affairs
  • Regulatory Engagement
  • Strategic Policy Insights

The Associate Director of Government Affairs for the European Union (EU) is part of the Government Affairs team, working closely with Regulatory Engagement and reporting to the Head of Government Affairs, Europe and Americas. The role involves designing and executing government engagement strategies with EU governments and institutions, supporting the Bank’s policy objectives in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with GPRA teams to align policy and regulatory priorities.
  • Implement engagement strategies within a complex, global matrix organization.
  • Monitor policy and political developments, including diplomatic meetings.
  • Draft internal and briefing notes for senior executives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve policy outcomes.
  • Identify and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment with the Bank’s strategic goals.
  • Challenge stakeholders and escalate issues as needed.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders based on trust and integrity.
  • Develop and refine processes for GPRA outputs.
  • Support management reporting and coverage tracking.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with EU institutions and policymaking across EU member states.
  • Proven track record in strategic engagement programs.
  • Knowledge of key policy issues for a global trade finance bank.
  • Existing network within European governments and institutions, especially in locations like Brussels, Germany, France, Poland, and Sweden.
  • Ability to write policy notes and briefing documents.
  • University degree in Legal, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or International Relations.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French and/or German is a plus.
