Job Summary

Currently to our office in London we are looking for a Senior Manager (Market Risk) who will join our dynamic Team and support us in:

  • Supporting the integrity of the Group's risk and return decisions by providing independent Market Risk oversight of the Credit Trading business, with primary responsibility for ABS, Credit Flow and Loan Trading and broader coverage across Structured Credit, Repo and Financing, Equity, DCM and related trading activities.
  • Ensuring that material market risks are appropriately identified, measured, assessed, challenged and controlled in accordance with the Group's Risk Appetite and Risk Management Framework.
  • Acting as a senior Market Risk partner to the Credit Trading business, engaging regularly with Heads of Trading and senior business management, particularly those based in London, on portfolio risks, transactions, business strategy and emerging risk issues.
  • Exercising delegated Market Risk authority and Risk Control responsibilities within the assigned Credit Trading perimeter.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies and risk governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Informing the development and execution of the Market Risk strategy for the Credit Trading business, with particular focus on ABS, Credit Flow and Loan Trading.
  • Providing independent risk input into business strategy, portfolio development, new products and material transactions across the wider Credit Trading perimeter.
  • Anticipating emerging market, liquidity, concentration and structural risks and ensuring that these are appropriately reflected in risk appetite, limits, stress testing and management actions.
  • Promoting a strong risk culture and disciplined risk-taking across the business.

Business

  • Communicating and implementing the strategic priorities of the Market Risk function across the Credit Trading business.
  • Maintaining an effective and constructive relationship with Heads of Trading, desk heads and senior business management, providing timely and credible challenge on risk-taking, portfolio strategy and material transactions.
  • Developing and maintaining the Market Risk capabilities, analytics and infrastructure required to support the evolving Credit Trading business.
  • Providing an integrated assessment of risk across ABS, Credit Flow, Loan Trading, Structured Credit, Repo and Financing, Equity, DCM and related activities, recognising concentrations and linkages across products.
  • Supporting the delivery of relevant internal, senior management and regulatory risk reporting.

Processes

  • Overseeing the effective execution of Market Risk processes within the assigned Credit Trading perimeter, including risk identification, limit monitoring, stress testing, escalation and risk reporting.
  • Ensuring that material risk exposures, limit excesses, valuation concerns and emerging risk issues are identified, assessed and escalated on a timely basis.
  • Ensuring effective management of operational risks within the Market Risk function and compliance with applicable internal policies, laws and regulations.
  • Continuously improving the efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of Market Risk oversight across Credit Trading.
  • Working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that new products, material transactions and changes to booking or risk management arrangements are subject to appropriate review and approval.

People & Talent

  • Upholding and reinforcing the independence of the Market Risk function from the businesses whose risk-taking activities it oversees.
  • Leading by example and promoting the appropriate culture, conduct and values across Market Risk and the wider organisation.
  • Providing subject-matter guidance and support to Market Risk colleagues and contributing to the development of technical capabilities across the team.
  • Building effective working relationships across locations and functions to support consistent risk oversight of the Credit Trading business.

Languages

Substantial experience in Credit Trading Market Risk, trading, structuring or a closely related risk discipline, with strong knowledge of ABS, Credit Flow and/or Loan Trading. Broad understanding of the wider Credit Trading product spectrum, including Structured Credit, Repo and Financing, Equity, DCM and related trading activities. Strong technical understanding of market risk measurement and management, including sensitivities, stress testing, scenario analysis, concentration risk, liquidity risk, valuation uncertainty and risk appetite frameworks. Strong business and risk judgement, including the ability to assess complex or material transactions and evaluate risk-adjusted returns. Demonstrated ability to engage with, influence and provide credible independent challenge to Heads of Trading, senior business management and control-function stakeholders. Ability to communicate complex risk matters clearly and concisely to senior management and governance forums. Experience operating across a geographically dispersed organisation and managing multiple products and stakeholder groups. Strong analytical, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to market events. Relevant academic or professional qualifications in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline.
