Job Summary

  • Team is responsible for the acquisition and disposal of businesses, new investments and management of portfolio of strategic equity investments.
  • Executing transactions in line with the enterprise risk framework including (a) evaluation and preliminary assessment; (b) process/project management; (c) negotiation, signing and internal approval.
  • Managing approvals in line with the Group Delegated Authorities Manual, which specifies, based on a value threshold, whether a corporate investment can be approved by an executive, by the Court of Standard Chartered Bank or by the Board of Standard Chartered PLC.
  • Work closely with Global Business

Responsibilities

  • Review transaction opportunities aligned with the strategic agenda of the Group:
    • Deep understanding of the strategic ambitions and challenges of the Group and each Business.
    • Establish a vision: proactively seek opportunities to pursue the growth agenda of the Group.
    • Engage in an active dialogue to anticipate solutions to the growth agenda and challenges the bank faces in its various markets.
    • External focus: maintain close relationships with potential partners and competitors to understand best practice and strategic aspirations.
  • Oversee the analysis and presentation of the evaluation of transaction opportunities:
    • Strong corporate finance skill-set in financial modelling, structuring, deal negotiation and project management.
  • To lead, inspire and motivate the team ensuring that each individual achieves their potential and that the team delivers its collective agenda.
  • Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating operational risks to the Group relevant to Corporate Development.
  • Responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Understanding of banking sector corporate finance principles (M&A, investments, strategic alliances, joint ventures, etc).
  • High numeracy with experience of designing and interpreting complex financial models and valuation analyses.
  • Ability to motivate and develop junior team-members.
  • Conscientiousness with high attention to detail.
  • Positive contributor to team in terms of ideas and knowledge.
  • Proven experience on similar position will be an asset.
