This is not a portal treadmill! It’s a grown-up claims role for someone who can already run files and wants more than rinse-and-repeat whiplash claims. EL PL experience helps, but strong PI experience and the appetite to litigate matter more.
You’ll join a claimant team handling portal-exited and non-portal fast track matters. You won’t be thrown in at the deep end without support, but you also won’t be micromanaged. If you know how to handle PI claims properly and want to sharpen your EL PL and litigation exposure, this is a sensible next move.
Day to day
- Run your own personal injury caseload from instruction through to settlement or trial
- Handle portal-exited and non-portal fast track claims
- Work across a mix of EL PL and wider personal injury matters
- Instruct and liaise with medical experts and other specialists
- Tackle liability disputes rather than avoiding them
- Gather documentary and witness evidence that actually moves cases forward
- Negotiate confidently with insurers and opposing solicitors
- Value claims for pain, suffering and loss of amenity
- Quantify additional heads of loss including loss of earnings and care
- Draft schedules of special damages without copy-paste shortcuts
- Issue Part 7 proceedings where appropriate
- Prepare cases for litigation and trial with support where needed
Skills required
- Solid experience handling personal injury claims end to end
- EL PL experience helpful but not a deal-breaker
- Some exposure to litigation or a genuine desire to get there
- Working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules
- Comfortable with liability and quantum
- Strong drafting skills
