We’re representing a well-run, Lexcel-accredited law firm looking for an experienced Accounts Manager who actually knows how a legal accounts function works – not just in theory, but in the real-world detail. This isn’t a back-office box-ticking job. You’ll own the numbers. You’ll keep everything straight, clean and regulator-ready.
You’ll take full responsibility for the firm’s financial operations, making sure everything lines up with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and current regulatory standards.
Day to day:
- Running and maintaining client and office ledgers properly
- Overseeing billing and making sure invoices go out accurately and on time
- Handling bank reconciliations without them turning into month-end archaeology
- Producing monthly management accounts
- Owning credit control and keeping lock-up sensible
- Managing VAT returns from start to submission
- Coordinating the outsourced payroll provider and making sure nothing slips
- Working closely with external accountants and auditors on year-end accounts
- Supervising Accounts Assistants, setting standards and keeping workflow tight
You’ll stay ahead of changes to the Solicitors Accounts Rules, VAT, and Money Laundering Regulations. The firm takes risk and quality seriously, and you’ll be central to that.
What We’re Looking For:
- Solid experience running accounts within a law firm
- Solicitors Accounts Rules experience
- Background in a Lexcel-accredited environment – this is essential
- Strong systems skills, including legal accounts and case management software
- Clear grasp of regulatory obligations and how they apply in practice
- Organised, commercially aware, and capable of juggling competing deadlines
- Comfortable communicating with partners, fee earners, auditors and third parties
- High integrity and a straightforward, proactive approach
