Stamford School is offering an exciting opportunity for recent Sports Graduates with ambitions in teaching and coaching to join a one-year programme, beginning in September 2026. The role is open to graduates of Sports Coaching and Sports Science degrees, as well as experienced coaches, who can provide leadership within our extensive co-curricular programme, with a particular focus on major sports. Both residential and non-residential opportunities are available, and boarding duties form part of the role.

Stamford School will endeavour to support applicants in their professional development through the sports provided within the school. Interest in one or more of the following areas can also be supported through the one-year programme: video analysis, strength and conditioning, and sports nutrition. The programme will have an emphasis on taking a major sport each term and gaining experience in teaching and coaching within the curriculum and co-curricular programme. Candidates may be invited to apply for a supported PGCE, apprenticeship, or second year, in the Autumn term. A formal process will begin after Christmas with the offer of places to start in September 2027. At the end of the programme, Stamford School would normally expect successful applicants to further their careers in other schools or sporting institutions. However, opportunities may be available to remain at Stamford School.

There are a few different positions available:

  • Sport specific roles (Hockey, Netball) - This role will work closely with the head of their sport to develop the performance and participation within it. They will be required to work with other sports outside of their sports term.
  • Video Analyst - This role will work across all sports assisting the head of sport with coding and presenting to the pupils. They will also be required to coach the main sports each term.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Heads of Sport across the school’s sporting programme, including Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Cricket.
  • Planning, delivering and coaching high-quality sport sessions.
  • Assisting PE staff in the delivery of Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 PE lessons.
  • Officiating fixtures and school sporting events.
  • Providing one-to-one and small group coaching where required.
  • Supporting outreach programmes with local primary and preparatory schools.
  • Taking responsibility for the sports pages and contributing to school social media platforms.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, including team selection and organisation of fixtures.
  • Playing an active and positive role as part of the boarding house team.
  • Promoting high professional standards at all times.
  • Undertaking relevant coaching courses to support ongoing professional development.
  • Contributing to special projects aimed at the development of sport within the school, under the direction of the Director of Sport.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head, Director of Sport or Head of Sport.

Relevant experience/qualifications:

  • Experience in playing and/or coaching in hockey, netball, cricket or rugby.
  • Experience and/or interest in working with young people and pursuing a career as a teacher or in a sports-related field.
  • Be empathetic and have an understanding of the needs of children in a boarding environment.
  • Possess good communication skills, verbally and in writing.
  • Able to support students pastorally and role model appropriate behaviours.
  • Willingness to contribute to extra-curricular sport and fixtures.
  • Ability to communicate well with pupils from various age ranges.
  • Empathy with aims and ethos of the School.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
  • Understanding of child protection and safeguarding requirements.
  • Personal experience of boarding or residential environment.
  • Coaching/Officiating Qualifications.
  • Experience in coaching at a performance level.
  • Possess a Driving License (held for 2 years).
