Management Accountant role at Stamford School

Stamford School is a large, co-educational Day and Boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 18. Established in 1532, it has a prestigious heritage, but everything we do is focused on preparing young people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in the 21st century.

Job Description

Stamford School is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Management Accountant to join our dynamic Finance Team on a twelve-month fixed-term contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a number of new management account packs using the existing single consolidated pack to break down & define business unit performance.
  • Completing monthly accounts for said business units including accruals, prepayments, reforecasts to present to the FD for analysis.
  • Monthly payroll reconciliation by department vs. budget.
  • Cleanse and manage the existing cost centre structure and nominal set up.
  • Ensure all costs and income are re-aligned to flow into the relevant business unit.
  • Manage the continued rollout of the PO system to the academic element of the business. Professional services and operations have already rolled out so a template and process is in place which needs implementing by Christmas 2025.
  • Analyse and improve the controls on setup and flowthroughs along with setting the correct authorisation levels for secondary and master budget holders.
  • Manage and distribute budget holder packs for each budget holder, ensure that monthly forecasting takes place within the budget granted.
  • Analyse all individual spend over £500 on a monthly basis.
  • Implementing streamlines for the Inward and Outward invoicing processes, working with the relevant controller and optimising the existing system to ensure productivity gains.
  • Assist the Head of Finance in the VAT return and analysis.

Qualifications

  • AAT level 4 qualified or CIMA/ACCA PQ. QBE candidates will be considered – minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Extensive experience as a Management Accountant or similar role
  • Intermediate excel skills utilising SQL links into the finance suite (already utilised), X-Lookups, PowerPivot, IF-Error, SUMIFS, and Nested IF as a minimum.
  • Proficiency in financial management systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build strong relationships with non-finance staff and budget holders.
  • Strong initiative, quick learner, and good understanding of accounting principles.
