Stamford School is a large, co-educational Day and Boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 18. Established in 1532, it has a prestigious heritage, but everything we do is focused on preparing young people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in the 21st century.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • To direct and support the religious and spiritual life of the School across all faiths and none.
  • To oversee all Chapel services and the life of the Chapel more generally. The pupil population has some diversity, and it is therefore essential that the approach of the Chapel is broad and inclusive.
  • To ensure that the Chaplaincy has a resonance and impact across the whole of the School community, e.g. with Chaplain assemblies.
  • Working with colleagues to lead and organise all Chapel services in an open and inclusive fashion, delivering thoughtful and engaging services on issues of faith, spirituality and morality.
  • To conduct all House Services (with parental attendance) and oversee the keynote services – Ingram, Harvest, Nine Lessons & Carols, Easter, Leavers’ Service, Founders’ Day in St Andrew’s Church.
  • To be available for the wider school community at key moments, e.g. bereavement.
  • To prepare, advise and organise candidates for Confirmation.
  • To foster an interest in spiritual matters amongst pupils, including through clubs and societies.
  • To work with the Director of Music and Chamber Choir to ensure music and choral contributions to the Chapel remain strong.
  • To manage the day-to-day operations and budget of the Chapel.

Pastoral

  • To play a key part in the pastoral care of the pupils, promoting and supporting their welfare and that of their families by being available to them as required.
  • To play a key part in the pastoral care of the staff and in developing their community life with special focus on Support Staff including running Support Staff Voice Group alongside the Bursar.
  • To be involved in the boarding community.
  • To be adviser, comforter and helper, as well as offering spiritual guidance to school staff families.

General

  • To support the strategy and development of the School by offering advice as appropriate, offering advice and collaboration as appropriate.
  • To be involved with the community and in charity projects by running the Community Service Unit and actively supporting the Charity Committee.
