Water Hygiene Supervisor / Water AP

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Water Hygiene Supervisor / Water AP to join a well-established facilities management team supporting a large and diverse contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable professional to lead water hygiene operations across a diverse healthcare estate spanning Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Essex, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, safety and service delivery.

As a Water Hygiene Supervisor / Water AP, you will provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on in the delivery of water hygiene and water treatment services.

You will oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive works, water sampling programmes, legionella compliance, and the supervision of water hygiene operatives and apprentices.

You will play a key role in ensuring all water systems remain fully compliant with ACOP L8, HSG274, BS 8580, HTM 04-01 and site-specific Written Schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all water safety operations across the contract, ensuring statutory compliance at all times.
  • Plan and manage water sampling programmes, temperature monitoring, TMV servicing and other water hygiene PPM activities.
  • Review laboratory analysis results and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready water hygiene records, logbooks and certification.
  • Coordinate specialist contractors, ensuring permits, RAMS and safe systems of work are followed.
  • Identify system defects, compliance risks and remedial requirements, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Conduct and supervise legionella control activities, including outlet flushing, water sampling, cleaning, disinfection and descaling.
  • Inspect cold water storage tanks, calorifiers and associated assets.
  • Support legionella risk assessments, Written Schemes and compliance documentation.
  • Produce detailed technical reports and provide expert advice to contract management and client stakeholders.
  • Supervise, mentor and support water hygiene technicians and apprentices while managing workloads and operational performance.

About You

The successful Water Hygiene Supervisor / Water AP will have extensive experience delivering water hygiene or water treatment services within healthcare, commercial or similarly regulated environments.

You'll possess strong technical knowledge of legionella control and water treatment legislation, along with excellent organisational and communication skills.

You should have

  • Proven experience within water hygiene or water treatment.
  • Strong understanding of ACOP L8, HSG274, BS 8580 and HTM 04-01.
  • Experience using CAFM systems together with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Recognised water hygiene or legionella qualifications such as City & Guilds or Legionella Control/L8 Awareness.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification (preferred).
  • The ability to lead teams, manage contractors and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
