In consultation with the Headmistress, lead the management of the Music and Drama curriculum and its developments from Nursery to Year 6. Implement long term and medium term plans. Lead and manage our team of Peripatetic tutors, which includes their recruitment and overseeing timetabling. Brief and update colleagues, through meetings and workshops, on relevant policy and practice.

Teaching and Learning

Be an exemplary teacher, planning appropriately to meet the needs of all pupils, through differentiation of tasks/having the highest expectation of every child, believing that every learner has unlimited potential for development.

  • To teach music, singing and drama throughout the school.
  • To monitor children’s progress, keep records and evaluate children’s achievements.
  • To provide a stimulating environment, which builds confidence and promotes a love of music and drama to all pupils.
  • Set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils learning.
  • To co-operate with other teachers in the planning and delivery of the curriculum.
  • To provide Teacher Assessments for all pupils at the end of the academic year.
  • To enrich the curriculum by inviting visitors to School, arranging workshops and organising extracurricular events, trips and visits.
  • Organise our annual Music Evening and liaise with staff to assist with Christmas presentations, school productions and Direct the School Choir, Staff Choir and Concert Band, the Chamber Choir and overseeing the running of other choirs and singing groups.
  • Maintaining a well-organised and pupil friendly environment and create lively and interactive lessons that foster a passion for music in children of all abilities.
  • Maintain the positive ethos and care values of the School, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Contribute to constructive team-building amongst teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and Governors.
  • To maintain records and carry out procedures to satisfy school policies.
  • To supervise, plan work and provide necessary resources for
  • Learning Support Assistants, where appropriate.

General:

  • To foster an enthusiasm for learning.
  • To promote good manners and behaviour through example.
  • To work in co-operation with the Year Co-ordinator, Subject Co-ordinators and the Heads of School.
  • To establish good working relationships with parents.
  • To keep abreast of current practice through taking personal responsibility for ongoing professional development.
  • To perform a reasonable number of playground duties.
  • To attend Staff Meetings, Parent Consultation Evenings, Open Mornings and Sports Day.
  • To maintain an involvement in school activities.
  • To be involved in extracurricular activities.
  • Plus any other duties as detailed by the Headmistress.

Person Spec:

  • Commitment to the importance of safeguarding and wellbeing of pupils.
  • Have suitable qualifications / Degree with Qualified Teacher Status, with previous teaching experience.
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Experience of teaching KS1 and KS2 pupils.
  • Have sound and balanced curriculum knowledge of Music and the implications of the National
  • Have a strong vision for outstanding provision.
  • Have excellent communication skills, oral, written and in the use if ICT.
  • Have high expectations and bring out the very best from all children.
  • Possess imagination, enthusiasm and an eagerness to bring subjects alive, supported by the use of ICT
  • within the classroom.
  • Be able to consistently present a high standard in classroom practice.
  • Calmness and efficiency, with the ability to work under pressure at all times.
  • A professional approach which inspires confidence in pupils and parents.
  • Be able to maintain good discipline within a caring atmosphere.
  • Produce a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Work well within a team.
  • Be able to take responsibility for planning own area of the curriculum and differentiae lessons
