We need you!! If you love repairing bodywork on large vehicles but you’re thinking “I fancy a change”, “I want more variety” or “I want to work in a team”, then we may just have exactly what you’re looking for!

You’ve probably seen some of our vehicles driving around London Borough of Newham, Tower Hamlets and Hackney transporting our fantastic customers across outer London. Those customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and as part of our engineering team you’ll be a key part in making sure our vehicles are in tip top condition to do just that.

It’s a really important role within our depot, so we’ll make sure you’re as looked after as our vehicles are! You’ll have the responsibility of maintaining and repairing the bodywork on our fleet of buses, we operate across London. Our buses include modern double deckers and single deckers as well as some new Electric buses which are now in service with us. This role will involve doing shift work.

Don’t worry if you’ve not worked on these vehicles before (or indeed buses) – we’ll train you on everything you need to know, and you’ll be supported by a great team of fellow Electricians, Mechanics, Technicians, Storespeople, Administrators and Engineering Managers who all pull together to do a brilliant job.

And there’s plenty of variety – repairing or replacing framework, panels, ramps, doors, upholstery and even welding and painting – so if you’re up for the challenge we need you.

Aside from the reward of helping to deliver an incredible experience to our customers, there’s plenty more we can offer:

  • Job security – we’ve been going since 1980, we turn over ÂŁ1.3bn and we’re not planning on hanging our boots up anytime soon!
  • A great regular income and great benefits – up to ÂŁ29.20 per hour, based on experience, plus a good pension scheme to look after you after you’ve hung up the spanner!
  • Free travel for you and a household member on TfL bus and rail services (this is a non-contractual benefit) and outside London there is free travel for you and a companion on Stagecoach buses.
  • UK-wide opportunities, career development and secondment opportunities to work elsewhere in our UK business. If you’re happy working as a Coachmaker then that’s absolutely fine by us…but if you do want to progress we’ll support you every step of the way. You will be given exposure to work which will develop your skills and experience to allow you to progress your management career further.
  • An employee assistance programme to support health and wellbeing through a confidential service available 24 hours a day, which provides specialist guidance and assistance on a range of personal and work-related issues, from dealing with stress and anxiety to managing financial, marital or legal issues.
  • A great working environment with loads of opportunity to make new friends from a bunch of great colleagues and employee networks building inclusive environments for women, veterans, carers, multicultural and LGBTQ+ colleagues.

We are proud to advocate and collaborate with our corporate charity, as well as a number of community engagement projects – in addition to proudly promoting an array of health, wellbeing and family initiatives.

You don’t have to come from a bus background (but we wouldn’t be put off if you did either!), but ideally you will need to have worked in an engineering field involving large vehicles – truck, haulage, automotive, plant, rail, farm – if it is large and it moves, it’s good experience for working on buses!

Stagecoach is proudly an inclusive employer, striving for a culture where everyone can be themselves and where all the differences people bring are truly appreciated. We welcome applications from all, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, or age.
