About The Opportunity

Role Purpose

As a Crime Scene Manager, you will take charge of forensic activity at serious and major crime scenes, providing expert leadership, forensic strategy, and operational oversight. You will ensure that evidence is identified, assessed, preserved and recovered using validated, robust techniques while maintaining full compliance with ISO 17020/17025 standards and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice. You will work closely with Forensic Coordinators, Forensic Area Managers, Senior Investigating Officers and frontline investigators to deliver effective, timely and objective forensic support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Crime Scene Management for complex and major investigations including homicide and serious crime.
  • Develop, brief and adapt forensic strategies using informed professional judgement.
  • Undertake dynamic risk assessments to ensure safe working at crime scenes.
  • Direct and mentor Forensic Examiners and Investigators at Level 2 and 3 scenes.
  • Record, examine and recover a wide range of forensic evidence.
  • Produce high‑quality reports, SFRs and court statements; attend court as required.
  • Support professional development and welfare of forensic staff.
  • Ensure integrity, continuity and security of forensic evidence.
  • Deputise for the Forensic Coordinator when required.
  • Deliver factual reports, statements, and court evidence as required.
  • Promote forensic awareness and training across policing and prosecution teams.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Competent Stage 3 Crime Scene Investigator with completed Stage 1 & 2 training.
  • Strong decision‑making ability using scientific and professional judgement.
  • Ability to work methodically under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with investigators, partners and other agencies.
  • Ability to handle distressing and sensitive material professionally.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in crime scene management.
  • Experience handling confidential/sensitive information and knowledge of Data Protection requirements.
