Staffordshire Police are looking to recruit a qualified Armed Response Vehicle Officer (ARV Officer) through the Transfer Programme for Home Office Police officers. This role offers relocation support and incentive payments.

About the role

As part of the Firearms Team you will provide proactive and reactive assistance in support of operational officers and specialist departments, applying firearms skills in accordance with the National ARV role profile and the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum. You will also have the opportunity to develop into specialisms such as close protection, tactical rifle officer, National Firearms Instructor, and Operational Firearms Commander.

Responsibilities

  • Provide armed response support to all operational officers and specialist departments.
  • Use firearms in accordance with the ARV role profile, National Firearms Training Curriculum and relevant policies.
  • Develop and maintain firearms proficiency through regular training and assessments.
  • Support training and mentoring of new ARV officers where required.
  • Participate in operational briefings and after‑action reviews.
  • Adhere to all health, safety and procedural guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Serving Police Officer in a Home Office Force.
  • Successfully completed probationary period (constable rank).
  • No outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
  • Qualified Authorised Firearm Officer (AFO) trained to the ARV role profile.
  • Fitness to meet the required standard (Bleep test 9.4).
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in high‑pressure situations.

Location

Staffordshire Police Headquarters, Staffordshire.

Training

Up to five weeks of initial training, depending on prior experience and skill set. Training is built into the shift pattern, with 8‑hour training days within each 10‑week cycle. Each cycle provides five full weekends off to support work‑life balance.

Salary & Incentives

Training salary plus localisation allowance up to £8,000 under the HMRC Scheme. A £1,000 bonus payment and a further £1,000 target variable payment (paid in monthly instalments) are available to Authorized Firearms Officers who transfer from another Home Office Force. OFC role holders receive an additional £500 target variable payment and a £20 bonus payment for each OFC duty.
