Overview

Housing Options Officer – 1 x 37 Hours – Permanent; 1 x 37 Hours – Temporary 12 month contract. Salary £32,597 - £35,412 per annum plus essential car user allowance. Location: Buxton; Agile working applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide housing advice and support to help prevent or relieve homelessness in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Carry out relevant investigations surrounding an applicant’s homelessness, housing needs, and circumstances and make decisions on what statutory duty may be owed to them.
  • Conduct assessments and develop the Personal Housing Plan (PHP) and Housing needs assessment in line with guidance from the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Carry out relevant assessments to determine priority need and assess the requirement to provide interim accommodation in line with Section 188 of the Housing Act 1996.
  • Review PHPs by advising and supporting applicants with appropriate actions to be taken to help prevent or resolve homelessness.
  • Undertake recording of homeless prevention and relief cases for the purposes of data protection, audit, statistical analysis and government returns.
  • Produce accurate Section 184 decision letters in a timely manner in line with legislation, whilst ensuring that the relevant duties are discharged appropriately.
  • Engage effectively with accommodation and support providers to help ensure the needs of customers in terms of housing and support are met.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • A positive and enthusiastic housing professional with relevant experience and a practical, outcome‑focused approach.
  • An understanding of the allocations process is essential.

Other information

  • Under Agile working, attend the office a minimum of 2 days a week. This will include working from either office at Leek or Buxton.
  • Enhanced DBS Check is required.
