About the Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Tailor / Stock Controller within our Supplies Department to provide a uniform and workwear alterations service to Staffordshire Fire and Police personnel, and to provide assistance with the receipt, storage, and issue of goods required, providing administrative support in associated areas.
Duties
- Assist in the performance of day‑to‑day activities of the Department, in accordance with prescribed methods and procedures.
- Assist in implementing authorised changes in methods and procedures utilised by the Department.
- Alter and modify workwear and uniforms to individual requirements.
- Assist in resolving day‑to‑day enquiries from suppliers and service users.
- Issue items from stock on authorised demand, ensuring that such items are properly and accurately recorded and processed as per associated documentation.
- Measure and fit garments and PPE to personnel.
- Receive goods from suppliers, ensuring that items have been accurately checked, recorded and processed as per associated documentation.
- Receive SFRS items for disposal, ensuring that such items are properly and accurately recorded and processed as per associated documentation.
- Prepare and distribute goods directly to the user, or to approved delivery points. This could involve driving to all areas of the Service and Suppliers.
- Ensure that stock items are stored correctly and suitable for issue.
- Assist in cleaning/maintaining the stock control areas of the Department.
- Assist in maintaining electronic stock control & PPE systems.
- Progress purchase orders and invoices accurately.
- Place orders for goods as approved by the management team.
- Perform any other duties comparable to level of responsibility, as may be required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Good general level of education
- Experience of stock control administration or warehousing
- Basic working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of sewing machinery and associated equipment
- Experience in the use of electronic stock control systems
- Good ICT skills – competent in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access
- Clean and current driving licence
Desirable
- Knowledge of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue policies and procedures relating to procurement and Stock Control
- Advanced knowledge of stock control systems
- Competence in sewing machine operations/maintenance with tailoring skills
