Are you AAT qualified member or equivalent, with experience of working in a Local Government Finance Team? Are you looking to commence or further your career with Staffordshire County Council? If so, you are encouraged to consider the role of Finance Business Partner, this is a key role within our friendly and supportive Finance Business Partnering Team. You will have the opportunity to learn, develop and progress to suit your ambitions. Working closely with external partners and a wide range of colleagues across the County Council, you will be part of a team that will set and analyse budgets, communicate with service leads, project managers and support staff, and help us deliver essential services and projects that are good value for money for the people of Staffordshire. You will have an office base in Stafford, and we currently operate hybrid working, so there is flexibility for you to work from home, subject to service requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with budget monitoring and quarterly forecasting, annual budget setting and closure of the accounts.
  • Meet with service managers and work closely with them on a regular basis.
  • Assist with the monitoring of grants and submission of claims as required.
  • Work closely with Corporate Finance colleagues to assist with completion of government returns.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the overall aims and objectives of the Business Partnering Team.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Is an AAT qualified member or equivalent, with relevant experience in a Local Government finance role.
  • Skilled in supporting decision making, able to produce accurate reports and can communicate clearly to people at all levels within the organisation.
  • Has a good understanding of funding and regulation in the Local Government sector.
  • Can demonstrate sound knowledge in the use of IT systems and Microsoft Office packages especially Excel.
  • Is an excellent team player who is enthusiastic and can demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team or on their own initiative effectively, including work planning, prioritising activities.
