Overview
We are looking for a hardworking and safety‑conscious Sawmill Operative to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating sawmill machinery, processing timber to specification, and maintaining a clean, efficient working environment. This role suits someone who enjoys practical, physical work and takes pride in producing high‑quality timber products.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate sawmill machinery including saws, planers, edgers, and forklifts (if licensed)
- Sort, stack, and grade timber according to company standards
- Measure and cut timber to required specifications
- Monitor machinery performance and report faults or maintenance needs
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including PPE requirements
- Assist with loading and unloading timber products
- Maintain a clean and organised work area
- Work as part of a team to meet daily production targets
- Perform general yard duties as required
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a sawmill, timber yard, or manufacturing environment (preferred but not essential)
- Ability to operate or learn to operate sawmill machinery
- Good understanding of health and safety practices
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
