About the Role

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you will be the driving force on the factory floor. This isn't just about supervising; it’s about providing high-impact leadership to our shift operatives and acting as the central point of contact for Engineering, Technical, Supply Chain, and NPD. We are looking for a leader who takes ownership, prioritizes safety, and fosters a culture where we "win together and lose together." In this role, success is measured by three core pillars:

  • Safety First: Ensuring every team member leaves work in the same healthy condition they arrived.
  • Quality Excellence: Producing safe, "right first time" products in a pristine, controlled environment.
  • Operational Efficiency: Achieving high standards at the lowest possible cost through smart resource management.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operational Control: Ensure strict compliance with all business processes and "operational bibles" (the production plan and product specifications).
  • Team Leadership: Deploy the correct labor (skill and quantity), while coaching, developing, and managing performance effectively.
  • Standards & GMP: Maintain and constantly seek to improve site standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Problem Solving: Manage and accelerate downtime or sub-optimal line speeds swiftly; manage yields and report on improvements.
  • Quality Assurance: Close out shift complaints and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) accurately and on time.
  • Strategy & Recruitment: Work with the Operations Manager to identify skill gaps and assist in the recruitment of new talent.

Requirements & Experience

The Essentials:

  • Background: Proven experience in a manufacturing environment (Food, Pet Food, or FMCG is highly preferred).
  • Leadership: Previous experience as a Shift Manager, Team Lead, or Supervisor.
  • Qualifications: HACCP Level 2 and IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Compliance: A strong awareness of BRC standards.

The Person:

  • Continuous Improvement: A basic understanding of CI tools with a track record of delivering outcomes.
  • Communication: Credible and influential; able to build cross-functional relationships with ease.
  • Mindset: A "can-do" attitude with a focus on finding solutions, not just identifying problems.
  • Character: Honest, empathetic, and comfortable with high levels of accountability.
