Location: South Shields (with occasional cover in North Shields)

Pay Rate: £15.09 per hour

We are currently recruiting Port Operatives to join a busy port operation in the South Shields area, with occasional work at North Shields. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking for a varied, hands-on role within a dynamic port environment. No previous port experience is required as full training will be provided. The successful candidates will work across various operational areas, ensuring cargo operations are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loading and unloading cargo safely and efficiently.
  • Carrying out general labouring duties on the quayside.
  • Undertaking Slinger/Banksman and Hatchman duties when required.
  • Maintaining high health and safety standards at all times.
  • Working flexibly to meet vessel schedules and operational demands.

Shift Pattern

Candidates must be flexible to work a rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, and weekends.

Typical shifts: 06:00 - 18:00, 18:00 - 06:00

Shift Length: 12 hours (11.5 hours paid per shift)

Experience (Desirable but Not Essential)

  • Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) experience.
  • Slinger/Banksman certification or experience.
  • Previous experience within a warehouse, logistics, or port environment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a Drug and Alcohol Test.
  • Must successfully complete a Medical Assessment.
  • Must be clean-shaven to comply with Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) and face-fit testing requirements.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and nights.
