We are looking for a Drug Detection Dog Handler to contribute to the safety and security of HMP Five Wells by working with specially trained dogs to detect and deter the misuse of controlled drugs and other contraband to support overall prison operations in line with HMPPS and G4S requirements. The role also involves the care and welfare of the assigned working dogs. (1x Proactive & 1x Passive) You must also hold the following; – Full UK driving license – Good level of physical fitness – Experience of working within a custodial or detention facility. – A stable home life, as the dog is to be housed at the handler\’s residence. – A suitable vehicle to transport the dogs to and from work/exercise. – A suitable secure garden to site a kennel at their home address. Shifts are days, nights and weekends, working 45 hours per week Your Time at Work Your operational duties will include; – Conduct systematic searches of persons, areas within the establishment, and the prison perimeter (internal and external) using a trained detection dog. – Detect, deter, and prevent the introduction and misuse of controlled drugs and other prohibited items within the prison. – Support officers in their investigations by providing specialist advice on dog deployment and their uses. – Maintain security within the prison environment by complying with all security instructions and procedures.
