Our client, a Secondary School in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh requires a Classroom Assistant.
The Role:
- Work on an individual basis with a pupil who has statements of special educational needs.
- Assist the pupil as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare for class and help in setting up various items of apparatus as required for different subjects.
- Establish a supportive relationship with the pupil concerned.
- Supervise groups of pupils or individual pupils on specified activities including talking and listening, using ICT, extra-curricular activities, and other duties as directed by the school.
- Support the pupil in ensuring that all class work and homework is complete.
- Work with the pupil to support Literacy, Numeracy, and the development of social skills.
- Care for the pupil in the teacher's absence, e.g. morning break, lunchtime.
- Accompany the class to all extra-curricular activities, where appropriate.
- Ensure, as far as possible, a safe environment for pupils.
- Report to the class teacher any signs or symptoms displayed which may suggest that a pupil requires expert or immediate attention.
- Assist the class teacher and/or other professionals with the implementation of the system for recording pupil progress.
- Duplicate written materials and assist with the production of charts and displays.
Hours of work: 9am until 3.30pm
Requirements:
- Relevant qualification.
- Previous experience in a similar setting.
- Good communication skills and good understanding of English.
- Demonstrable ability to work on own initiative.
