Location: Foyle Chambers, Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland

Salary: £21.99 per hour

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm)

Contract Type: Temporary (Up to 12 months)

Start Date: May 2025

About the Role:

We are recruiting for a skilled Public Prosecutor to join the Northern Ireland Civil Service at Foyle Chambers in Derry/Londonderry. This role offers the chance to work on a range of criminal cases, providing crucial support to the justice system locally and across Northern Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate prosecution files received from law enforcement and government bodies
  • Provide timely and informed pre-prosecution advice
  • Prepare and direct appropriate charges with supporting evidence
  • Undertake advocacy predominantly in Magistrates Court with occasional County Court appearances
  • Liaise effectively with victims, witnesses, and other justice sector partners
  • Assist in the preparation of committal papers for Indictable cases where necessary

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister entitled to practise in Northern Ireland
  • Minimum of one year’s post-qualification advocacy experience in criminal cases, gained within the last six years in a Magistrates Court setting

  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK
  • Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete an Access NI check (charges apply)
