The Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Management) will support the Director of Finance in shaping the organisation’s long-term Financial Strategy, leading the development of financial plans, and overseeing the annual budget-setting and monthly financial performance processes. This senior role provides strategic financial leadership across NIAS, advising Directors, Senior Managers, and Budget Holders to inform decision‑making and drive organisational performance.

The post‑holder will lead on capital investment planning, efficiency programmes, Value for Money initiatives, benchmarking, business case evaluation frameworks, and the development of robust costing and financial appraisal systems. They will negotiate annual Service & Budget Agreements with Commissioners, produce the annual Financial Plan, contribute to the strategic direction of the wider Finance Department, and deputise for the Director of Finance when required. The role also includes responsibility for developing staff in line with organisational and directorate needs.

Qualifications

  • Full CCAB or CIMA membership, with at least 3 years’ post‑qualification experience (within the last 6 years) in a senior finance management role within a major, complex organisation.
  • A proven track record of delivering challenging financial and performance targets over a minimum of 3 years, with clear evidence of improvement achieved.
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes (minimum 3 years).
  • Demonstrated leadership, people management, governance, and organisational skills at a senior level for at least 2 years.
  • Experience across core financial services operations in a major complex organisation.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to transport (unless unable to drive due to disability and alternative arrangements are available).
