About the Role
Belfast City Council is recruiting OSS Sweeper Driver / Labourers to support frontline cleansing operations across the city. This role plays a vital part in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces for residents and visitors.
You will work as part of a small operational team delivering manual and mechanical street cleansing services, operating specialist vehicles and equipment, and engaging positively with the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain allocated cleansing vehicles and equipment
- Carry out manual and mechanical street sweeping across roads, footpaths, parks, alleyways, and public spaces
- Empty litter bins, collect waste, and remove litter from surrounding areas
- Transport team members to routes and depots as required
- Complete daily vehicle checks, defect reporting, servicing, and cleaning
- Safely load and unload waste, ensuring vehicles are not overloaded
- Follow assigned routes, schedules, and rotas
- Assist with general labouring duties including lifting, sweeping, and waste removal
- Engage with members of the public, responding to queries and complaints professionally
- Comply with health & safety legislation, PPE requirements, and council procedures
- Accurately complete work records, mileage, fuel, and defect logs
Applicants must, by the closing date:
- Hold a full Category C1 driving licence valid in Northern Ireland
- Hold a valid Driver CPC (Driver Qualification Card)
- Have at least one year\’s relevant experience in: Driving in a commercial or public sector environment Outdoor cleaning or cleansing work using tools/equipment safely Dealing directly with members of the public
