Staffline are hiring in collaboration with a leading supplier of high-quality meat and poultry products. We are keen to speak to experienced buyers from the meat industry. This vacancy is a site-based role; however, the successful candidate will need to possess a full UK driving licence and passport, and have a flexible approach to travel, both within the UK and occasionally abroad.
As a Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing meat and poultry. You will liaise closely with internal stakeholders, maintain and develop strong supplier relationships, and implement the company buying strategy, generating a solid base for current customers and new business.
Key Accountabilities:- Implement the company buying strategy for your categories.
- Identify the correct suppliers to provide the best possible commercial and product offering for our customer base and adjust according to changing business requirements.
- Directly agree prices, volumes, and specifications with suppliers for raw materials, working closely with the Supply Chain, Planning, and Operations teams.
- Manage supplier performance in conjunction with the Supply Chain team and ensure they are hitting requisite service levels and targeted KPIs.
- Take action to address underperformance whilst acknowledging excellent supplier performance.
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the market pertaining to the categories responsible for and be the market expert on these categories.
- Present market data.
- Create effective, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and work closely with them to understand the business buying requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely administration of supplier cost prices.
- Play an integral role in the preparation of customer tenders, providing forward pricing indications for raw materials within set deadlines.
- Identify risks within the supply chain and make recommendations to ensure continuity of supply.
To be considered for the role of Buyer:
- Previous experience buying within a food purchasing role, ideally poultry.
- Experience within chilled food manufacturing/fresh meat supply, Foodservice.
- CIP qualified is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
- Detailed understanding of product and material costings.
- Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Effective presentation skills, both written and spoken to internal and external contacts.
- Good general purchasing practices on goods and services.
- The ability to work on your own initiative with a flexible and open approach is essential as the product range within this remit is diverse.
- Ability to problem solve, identify, and resolve supply issues.
- Demonstrate project management success.
Remuneration: Salary D.O.E £50-55K, car allowance.
