Are you an experienced Harvesting Manager with a strong background in fresh produce picking and production? Our client is seeking a hands-on leader to drive efficiency, quality, and compliance within our harvesting operations. Working closely with Harvesting Supervisors, Growing Teams, and Senior Management, you will ensure optimal pick rates, crop yield, and workforce planning to meet customer demands.
Key Responsibilities:- Harvesting Operations & Quality Control
- Oversee the harvesting process, ensuring pickers meet hourly pick rate targets.
- Manage the daily planning of picking, ensuring optimal staffing and efficiency.
- Ensure products are picked sensitively and delicately to maintain quality and minimise waste.
- Monitor and evaluate picking statistics, ensuring all harvesters meet minimum targets.
- Implement graze picking strategies to maximise crop yield and quality.
- Ensure all products meet customer specifications.
- People Management & Training
- Train, coach, and mentor pickers and supervisors to enhance performance.
- Develop and implement manning plans for growing rooms, liaising with recruitment agencies as required.
- Drive a positive and motivated team culture to achieve daily picking targets.
- Enforce safe working procedures and ensure all new employees follow safety protocols.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Attend daily operations meetings to plan people, yields, and house organisation.
- Work closely with Harvesting Supervisors, Growing Manager, Production & Engineering teams to resolve operational issues.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, introducing new technologies where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP standards.
- Compliance & Health & Safety
- Promote and enforce industry best practices in food safety, hygiene, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Ensure safe and hygienic work environments in compliance with FSA and HSE regulations.
- Report any operational issues promptly to the Operations Director.
- Essential:
- Previous experience in fresh produce picking & harvesting management.
- Supervisory/management experience in a fresh produce farm.
- Strong people management and communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and leadership abilities.
- Good IT and numerical skills for reporting and analysis.
- A team player with a hands-on approach.
- Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Harvesting Manager in the fresh produce industry.
- Advanced Food Hygiene Qualification.
- Degree-level education in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Food Production.
