Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to take full responsibility for overseeing production, ensuring the highest standards of quality and food safety, improving efficiencies, and achieving targeted levels of performance. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all people management activities, driving a culture of excellence, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and food manufacturing regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
Achieve 100% Service Level by fully delivering the daily production plan.
Take ownership of the production plan, ensuring clear and timely communication of any service issues.
Support the Site Director and Supply Chain Manager, communicating production challenges that may impact customer service levels.
Health & Safety
Work closely with the Health & Safety team to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
Maintain high standards of site safety for both employees and contractors.
Assist in completing risk assessments and promptly address any reported Health & Safety concerns.
Quality & Food Safety
Take full responsibility for product quality, ensuring compliance with all quality systems.
Drive a strong culture of quality and food safety in collaboration with the Technical Manager and Site Director.
Ensure all quality checks and Critical Control Points (CCPs) are completed.
Work with the Hygiene Manager to maintain the highest food manufacturing hygiene standards.
Ensure the site retains its BRC accreditation and meets or exceeds all food legislation requirements.
People Management
Oversee all people management activities, including absence management, appraisals, discipline, and grievances.
Lead, coach, and develop the team to meet both current and future business needs.
Promote a positive, open culture where employees feel engaged and valued.
Ensure HR policies are adhered to and provide guidance on employee relations matters.
Factory Performance & Efficiency
Take full responsibility for factory productivity, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as material loss, output, labour efficiency, and quality.
Ensure all production targets are met, including cost control and waste reduction.
Conduct daily operational reviews with department managers to assess performance and address any variances.
Work with the Continuous Improvement Lead to drive efficiency and performance improvements.
Oversee the proper maintenance and utilisation of all factory equipment and machinery.
Projects & Expenditure
Ensure site discretionary spending is appropriate and controlled.
Oversee the successful launch of new business opportunities, ensuring staffing, machinery, and quality requirements are met.
Identify and manage capital expenditure projects to enhance safety, quality, and profitability.
Track and oversee site projects in collaboration with the Site Director.
Key Skills & Experience
Proven track record as a Factory Manager, Manufacturing Manager, or Operations Manager within an FMCG manufacturing environment (5+ years).
Experience in high-risk food manufacturing
Strong commercial awareness.
IOSH Safety Certificate.
Advanced Food Hygiene and HACCP certification.
Experience in managing and leading large teams.
In-depth knowledge of Health & Safety regulations within the industry.
Excellent IT skills and communication abilities.
Key Behaviours
