We're looking for a Senior Trusts and Estates Tax Assistant to join a growing Private Client Tax team in Cumbria. You'll work with a varied portfolio of trusts, estates and high-net-worth individuals, gaining exposure to both compliance and advisory work across areas including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and succession planning.

Responsibilities in your new role as Senior Trusts and Estates Tax Assistant
This is a great opportunity to join a growing Private Client Tax team, gaining exposure to a varied portfolio of trust and estate matters while developing your technical and advisory expertise. Key responsibilities:
- Prepare Trust and Estate Tax Returns
- Manage a portfolio of trusts and estates
- Liaise with clients, trustees, executors and intermediaries
- Support trust and estate administration
- Assist with Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax matters
- Contribute to succession and tax planning projects
- Identify potential tax planning opportunities
- Liaise with HMRC on compliance matters and enquiries
- Support new client onboarding and compliance documentation
- Keep up to date with trust and estate tax legislation
- Collaborate with colleagues to deliver excellent client service
Your personality, experience and qualifications
You will be AAT, ATT or CTA qualified or part-qualified, although candidates who are qualified by experience will also be considered. You'll have at least two years' practical experience in Trusts and Estates Tax compliance, gained within an accountancy practice or law firm, with a good understanding of Trust Registration Service (TRS) requirements, trust administration, Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax.
You’ll be confident working directly with clients, trustees and executors, building strong professional relationships and delivering an excellent level of service. Strong organisation, communication and attention to detail are essential, alongside the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively. You'll also bring a proactive approach, with the confidence to identify potential issues and opportunities and escalating these where appropriate.
