My client is an award winning locally owned transport business specialising in Heavy Haulage and Abnormal Cargo and Machinery Transport. They carry customer cargo throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe and Internationally using their modern fleet of 10 trucks and 30 trailers. An exciting opportunity has arisen in this expanding business; they seek to recruit a full-time permanent Transport Planner to contribute to the day-to-day running of the business.
This diverse and rewarding role has the following responsibilities:
- Planning routes throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe and Internationally as per customer orders
- Briefing & Debriefing Drivers; ensuring they get correct and full information for deliveries/collections
- Answering and making phone calls to Customers, Suppliers & Drivers
- Helping to manage email enquiries, sending and receiving information from Customers, Suppliers & Drivers
- Accepting and dealing with customers' orders, tracking orders and providing customers with updates
- Organising customs for customer orders
- Problem solving
- Reducing fuel and overhead costs and maximising drivers' hours
- Helping other staff with any ad-hoc and other administrative duties
- Adhering to Health and Safety Practices & Drivers Hours Regulations
- Organising Sub-contractors
- Booking Ferries and recording shipments
- Managing PODs, CMRS and all paperwork within the Transport Office
Essential Skills:
- 1-2 Years+ Experience established in a similar Transport Planner role
- Strong geographical knowledge of Ireland, UK & Europe
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Competent use of MS Office - particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Organisational skills, including good time keeping and prioritising tasks
- High attention to detail, professional & approachable
- Can work as part of a team as well as using their own initiative
- Can work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Willing to adapt to changing situations and quick to make decisions
- Positive can-do attitude, reliable and hard working
Desirable Skills:
- An interest/knowledge in the Transport Sector
- CPC International Holder
- Knowledge or experience with Customs
- Class 1 Driving License
The client is offering a starting salary of £35,000 to £40,000 (negotiable, dependent on skills and experience). Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm, Saturdays as required. 28 days holiday, company pension, uniform, on-the-job training, smart offices based near Banbridge, free secure parking, and career progression opportunities.
