Reporting to the Transport Operations Manager, the role of Assistant Shift Manager (Nights) requires someone who is capable of working under pressure and displaying a good analytical approach to deliver results and to achieve performance and service levels. We are looking for an experienced Manager with a background in transport. Previous people management and supervisory experience would be an advantage.
Working within a team environment, the successful candidate will work to achieve operational KPIs to tight deadlines and drive improvements by engaging the team and promoting a positive culture. The working hours for this role are 20.00 - 08.00, on a 4 on, 4 off basis. Please note that all candidates will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test as part of the pre-employment checks.
The main responsibilities of this role are:
- The efficient operation of your day-to-day shift.
- Maximise productivity and quality through monitoring, encouraging, and supporting drivers and the clerical team.
- Ensure effective use of all available resources.
- Ensure KPIs are met.
- Monitor and control absence levels.
- Ensure effective communication within the Transport Department, the Distribution Centre, Customers, Supply Chain and branches.
- Identify training needs and design/implement training plans.
- Challenge underperformance and recognise good performance in equal measure.
- Conducting disciplinary and absence hearings effectively when required.
- Conducting appraisal reviews for colleagues with your team.
To be considered for this role you will need:
- Previous experience within a Transport Operation is preferred, however experience within a logistics setting is essential.
- Excellent people management skills and the ability to develop self and others.
- A good understanding of multi-temperature warehouse/transport procedures compliance.
- Able to demonstrate high levels of initiative, focus, commitment, and flexibility.
- Experience of applying a working knowledge of Transport Legislation, e.g. Health & Safety, Employment Law, Discrimination etc.
- A good understanding of Transport legislation and the impact of non-compliance to protect the Companies Operators Licence.
- Ability to effectively plan labour and resource to deliver operational requirements in a timely manner whilst meeting agreed KPIs and Service Levels.
- To be an effective team worker and a confident and positive communicator.
- PC literate in Word & Excel.
- A CPC Qualification is preferred but not an essential requirement.
Full training and development will be given to successful candidates.
