Job Title: Marine Electrician
Location: Whitby/Middlesborough
Job Type: Permanent, 44 hours a week
Salary: up to £40,000
Staffpower Group are looking for a skilled Marine Electrician to join our well-established client near Whitby. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the marine industry, possess strong technical skills, and ensure that all electrical installations meet the required safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including wiring, control panels, lighting, and navigation equipment on marine vessels.
Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
Perform diagnostic testing and fault-finding to maintain the integrity and performance of onboard electrical systems.
Assemble and wire switchboards, distribution panels, and control systems to precise specifications.
Collaborate with engineers, shipbuilders, and other trades to integrate electrical systems within the vessel construction process.
Install and commission a range of electrical equipment, including motors, generators, batteries, inverters, and shore power connections.
Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols, maintaining compliance with maritime and industry regulations.
Keep detailed records of completed work and report issues or project updates to supervisors or project managers.
Requirements
Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical documentation.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve faults in complex electrical systems.
Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic shipyard environment.
Relevant electrical qualificationssuch as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2391, or 18th Edition Wiring Regulationsare highly desirable.
Desirable
Demonstrated experience as a Marine Electrician, ideally within shipbuilding or vessel maintenance environments.
Solid understanding of MCA and Class regulatory requirements for marine electrical installations.
Hands-on experience with AC/DC systems, generators, battery management systems, and marine navigation equipment.
Strong awareness of maritime safety standards and industry best practices for electrical work at sea.
