Staff Partners Healthcare requires experienced and dedicated Band 6 Senior Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join a multidisciplinary Mental Health Team working across prison establishments in Staffordshire and Worcester. The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based mental health care to individuals within a secure environment. You will manage a complex caseload, undertake comprehensive mental health assessments, formulate and review care plans, deliver specialist interventions, and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, prison staff, and external agencies to ensure continuity of care. This role offers an opportunity to make a significant difference to a vulnerable patient population while working within an integrated offender health service committed to recovery, rehabilitation, and reducing health inequalities.
Main Duties of the Role
- Undertake specialist mental health assessments and risk assessments.
- Manage and coordinate a caseload of patients with complex mental health needs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans.
- Deliver evidence-based mental health interventions in line with national and local guidelines.
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to prison primary care teams and partner agencies.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and clinical reviews.
- Support service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical records in accordance with NMC standards.
- Participate in supervision, appraisal, mandatory training, and continuous professional development.
Essential Criteria
- The successful candidate must be Prison cleared.
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration.
- Demonstrable experience working within secondary mental health services.
- Experience undertaking mental health assessments, risk assessments, and care planning.
- Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding procedures, and clinical governance principles.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage a complex caseload.
Essential Experience
Previous experience working within a prison, secure, forensic, or offender health setting is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the challenges and complexities associated with delivering mental health services within a custodial environment.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of CBT-informed interventions, Motivational Interviewing, or Brief Solution-Focused Therapy.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or supporting junior staff.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and offender healthcare pathways.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic group interventions.
- Leadership or management training.
