  • Your Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Undertake fault finding and identify the associated repair required.
  • Provide support across the business for all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems on the train and its interfaces.
  • Perform secondary checks of colleagues' work (four-eyes principle).
  • Answer technical questions from colleagues and handle practical questions from clients.
  • Provide assistance and technical feedback to the RAMS/Performance Engineer and depot production teams on technical incidents, including Line of Route Technicians as required.
  • Identify risks within own scope of work, assess them, and provide options to mitigate or resolve them, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Review and summarise faults, failures, and actions taken by depot production teams as required by the RAMS/Performance Engineer.
  • Mentor and support other members of the production team.
  • Produce high-quality reports on all in-service and other defects, both at system and component levels, in the business Maintenance Management System (SRMS or other) and general report writing, whether technical, non-technical, or production related.
  • Inform, negotiate, and persuade managers and colleagues to lead and support the development and implementation of improved systems and ways of working across the business.
  • Observe all health and safety practices, including maintaining a tidy workplace and properly disposing of substances with a high environmental impact.
  • Determine the best order of tasks to be performed in consultation with the (Shift) Production Manager and decide how to work with the available equipment and work instructions/maintenance list, based on knowledge and experience.
  • Identify and manage personal effectiveness and development, both technical and non-technical.
  • Support other parts of the business by providing technical coaching and/or mentoring, and quality assurance as required.
  • Perform all other relevant work as requested, within reason. The above is not an exhaustive list.
  • HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
  • Proficient in modern technical systems, fault-finding techniques, and the ability to read electrical/mechanical schematics.
  • Strong understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, especially from a production perspective.
  • Extensive engineering experience in rolling stock maintenance and knowledge of maintenance activities for a multi-disciplined transport fleet.
  • Experience managing small teams and addressing first-line people management issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems effectively.
  • Passion for continual improvement, including self-improvement and operational excellence.
  • Proficiency in system know-how and performance improvement techniques.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation and standards related to production and transport.
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship (City and Guilds/BTEC level) with an /Electrical/Electronic bias and NVQ level 5 or equivalent.
  • Good level of IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office packages.
  • Experience in planning and scheduling work effectively within an engineering context.
  • Strong customer-driven attitude focused on delivering quality results and supporting team members.
