Join us as an Operations Technician where you will assist with the successful implementation of MMA and TSA contract responsibilities. This role involves operating the Depot panel for the safe movement of Metrocars into, around and out of the Depot.

Role Overview:
Reporting to the Production Manager/Fleet Duty Manager, you will work a rotating shift roster, including weekends and Bank Holidays. You will be responsible for operating the Depot panel ensuring the safe movement of Metrocars, adhering to all safety regulations. You will aid the wider team in fault diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs to adhere to the companies KPI\’s and values.
Organisational
This role involves supporting and mentoring new starters through initial, on-the-job, and enhanced training, including assessments, to ensure a confident and capable workforce. Operational competence is essential, including procedures such as shunting, overhead crane operation, slinging, forklift truck (FLT) operation, and the cleaning of assets and components.
A strong focus on train presentation is required, ensuring high standards are maintained through duty cleans, graffiti removal, and window replacements. The role supports the business in delivering trains that meet all safety, reliability, and presentation standards, while also ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.
Flexibility is key, with responsibilities including emergency depot panel operation cover and participation in an on-call roster when required. The role also involves inputting and analysing data in electronic management systems such as SRMS and other platforms used by Stadler Rail Service UK.
Accurate documentation of all fleet maintenance activities, both paper-based and digital, is essential. The role supports materials management by ensuring stock withdrawals are correctly coded and that materials returned for warranty or repair are processed efficiently.
Maintaining personal competencies is a key responsibility, with timely planning and resolution of any required, upcoming, or overdue competencies. Adherence to industry best practices in engineering and production is expected, along with active support for the development and implementation of standards and procedures aligned with legal, legislative, and ethical obligations.
Regular checks, audits, and inspections of tools, equipment, facilities, and assets are required to ensure issues are identified and resolved effectively. A zero-harm culture is promoted within the production function, with strict adherence to engineering, hygiene, tool, and calibration management procedures.
The role includes initiating actions to prevent product non-conformities, rail safety and compliance issues, QHSE incidents, and deficiencies in processes or systems. This includes timely and thorough reporting and participation in inspections, safety tours, and condition assessments to support the implementation of safety and quality systems.
Assisting in the annual identification and quantification of risks is also part of the role, contributing to the completion of Risk Assessments (RAs) and the maintenance of the risk register. Value-based behaviour is expected at all times, setting a positive example and addressing inappropriate conduct when necessary.
Additional relevant tasks may be undertaken as required to support the success of the team and the wider organisation.
Essential
•Qualification or equivalent experience in a rail and depot environment.
•Formal education to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject.
•Electrical, network/software, and mechanical qualifications with suitable shop floor experience.
•Proven experience working in teams and engaging with stakeholders.
•Ability to work in a demanding environment with tight deadlines.
•Customer-driven attitude focused on quality.
•Flexibility and willingness to support colleagues with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•Experience working in a changing environment.
•Ability to contribute to complex discussions with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
•Understanding and interpreting legislation and standards related to health and safety.

•Proficiency in ICT, including Microsoft packages.
•Competency in Personal Track Safety (PTS) and Rolling Stock maintenance standards.
•Medically fit and subject to random and “for cause” drugs and alcohol testing.
•Full UK Driving License.
Desirable
•Extensive experience in an operational transport and production environment with knowledge of Rolling Stock units.
•Knowledge and experience in advanced Lean, Kaizen, 6S, and other modern production techniques.
•Experience in contributing to complex root cause investigations.
•Strong understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, particularly in a transport and production context.
•Experience in identifying and mitigating risks, and documenting risk registers to ensure compliance and safe systems of work.
•Formal education to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject.
