The Role
As a Lead CAE Engineer to work within virtual engineering for our vehicle and powertrain programs. You'll be responsible for vehicle level analysis to predict tail pipe emissions of gasoline programs. The role requires good understanding of detailed aftertreatment system modelling and engine out emissions & responsible for conducting CAE modelling, analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Development of methodologies for engine out emission prediction
- Develop models for exhaust system to capture altitude and off ambient conditions impact on tail pipe emissions
- Supporting 1D modelling of vehicle emissions virtual test cases to size the system, support technology selection, provide status and directional support for controls and calibration development
- Problem solving and issue resolution support related to vehicle emissions predictions
- Collaboration with internal suppliers of 1D simulation input data as necessary to ensure a value add output
- Generation of steady state to transient emissions coefficients based on test bed data
- Leading identification of 1D Powertrain Systems CAE tool and/or process enhancement requirements to meet current & future powertrain systems for hybrid vehicles analysis needs focusing on emissions

Skills / Knowledge / Experience
Essential
- Excellent understanding of engine out emission fundamentals and commonly used methods for its predictions
- Very good aftertreatment modelling and engineering understanding (as simulation or calibration engineer)
- Substantial industrial experience of assessing and verifying vehicle/powertrain emissions (desirable in a CAE environment)
- Good analytical capability and breadth of experience in GT-Suite
- Able to identify and respond to the strengths and limitations of computer-based modelling and simulation
Desirable
- Experience of Powertrain system, engine and aftertreatment physical test and/or calibration
- Proven success in complex system model validation, optimisation and correlation
- Experience in 1D vehicle and powertrain system model development
