St Thomas’ C.E. Primary School is looking for a friendly, organised and reliable Business Administration Apprentice to join our busy school office team. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop a career in administration within a school environment while gaining valuable qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will provide routine administrative, clerical and financial support to help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the school office.

Apprenticeship Training

  • 24 hours per week working within the school office environment
  • 6 hours per week dedicated learning and study time within school
  • Ongoing support and development opportunities
  • Practical workplace experience alongside formal training

This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to build skills, confidence and qualifications while working within a supportive school setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to face‑to‑face enquiries professionally and courteously
  • Welcome and sign in visitors to the school
  • Open, sort and distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing post
  • Maintain and update manual and computerised records and databases
  • Assist with routine bookkeeping and financial administration tasks
  • Support with collecting registers and completing school returns
  • Assist with arranging visits from outside agencies and professionals
  • Provide basic first aid support to pupils if required (training can be provided)
  • Carry out general IT‑based administrative tasks
  • Work effectively as part of the wider school team

  • Demonstrate a professional and courteous manner at all times
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Confidence using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • GCSEs A‑C/4‑9 in Maths and English (or equivalent) or willingness to achieve this level during your apprenticeship
  • GCSE A‑C/4‑9 in ICT is desirable
  • Ability to work towards Level 3 Business Administration

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in an office or customer service environment
  • Basic knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Experience working with children or within a school setting
  • NVQ Level 1 in Administration or equivalent experience
