Responsibilities
- Provide care and support to children aged 7‑16 years with autism in a residential setting.
- Contribute to, facilitate and review plans for each child that reflect their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Support the development of self‑regulation, confidence and effective communication in pupils.
- Work as part of a team and self‑directed, keeping a safe and supportive environment for all pupils.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Residential Care to achieve a cohesive, child‑centred approach.
Qualifications
- No prior experience required; full training will be provided.
- Commitment to working with children with autism and to fostering positive relationships.
- Clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

The Hawthorns School opened in January 2023 in Chelmsford and specialises in support for children with autism. The school offers a full‑time education focussed on social communication, emotional regulation and relationship‑building, alongside a broad curriculum. The newly constructed residential programme initially accommodates ten pupils aged 7‑16, with plans for future expansion. The school is part of the SEAX Trust, which includes several other special schools.
