Could you inspire children in the classroom, help colleagues flourish and bring faith to life across our school community?

We are seeking an outstanding teacher and practising Catholic to join St Gregory’s with a TLR for leading Religious Education and supporting the Headteacher in developing Catholic Life and Mission. This is an opportunity to combine excellent classroom teaching with meaningful leadership: shaping pupils’ experience of faith, strengthening teaching across the school and building relationships between school, home and parish.

Our Mission

“St Gregory’s is a sanctuary of love and hope where greatness grows.”

Our values of Love, Joy, Trust, Hope and Courage guide how we learn, work and care for one another. We want every child to feel known, valued and supported to fulfil their God-given potential. You will help turn that mission into daily experiences of excellent teaching, joyful worship and service to others.

Our Trust Mission is simple, it is to make Christ known, making lives better for our communities, our children and young people.

Our Trust Values - One of Hope

Inspired by St Teresa of Calcutta, we are people of hope. We have a complete belief in the future we will build together. By offering our children, staff and schools’ opportunities to grow and flourish, we make aspiration and ambition a reality. Our people, just like St Teresa are relentless and fiercely ambitious. We will always reach for that which seems to be just out of our grasp.

One of Courage

As modelled for us by St Teresa of Calcutta, we will have the courage to do what is right. As a community, we will not shy away from making decisions that ensure our communities thrive. We will be brave in our actions. As a truly Catholic organisation this courage will be most apparent in how we collectively support the most vulnerable.

One of Innovation

St Teresa of Calcutta changed the world. Together, we will always be pursuing new ideas and best practice in all areas of our work. We will prepare our children and young people for the world that awaits them. A world which they will shape and change.

Purpose of the role

Working closely with the Headteacher, you will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the RE curriculum, ensuring that it reflects diocesan expectations and the teaching of the Catholic Church. Your own outstanding classroom practice will provide a model for colleagues, helping pupils achieve highly while growing in faith, understanding and confidence.

As RE Leader, you must be a practising Catholic, in accordance with Diocese of Salford requirements for this leadership role, and be able to give authentic witness to the Catholic faith through your professional practice and contribution to school life.

Alongside your class teaching responsibilities, you will:

  • Lead and monitor the RE curriculum, using assessment, pupils’ work and discussion to identify strengths, improve teaching and secure strong progress for all learners.
  • Plan and lead weekly worship and Singing Praise, including worship for different phases, rooted in Scripture and the Church’s liturgical year.
  • Help children participate actively in prayer and liturgy, developing their confidence to plan, lead and reflect on worship.
  • Work with our local parish and clergy to arrange class and whole-school Masses and celebrations throughout the year.
  • Support the parish sacramental programme, working with families, clergy and catechists to help children prepare for and celebrate the sacraments.
  • Share excellent practice through modelling, coaching, collaborative planning and professional development, supporting early career teachers (ECTs), recently qualified teachers (RCTs) and teachers who are not Catholic to deliver the RE curriculum with confidence and accuracy.
  • Promote Catholic Social Teaching and help pupils put faith into action through service, care for others and care for creation.
  • Work with leaders and governors to evaluate and strengthen Religious Education, Catholic Life and Mission, and prayer and liturgy.

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Is an outstanding teacher with qualified teacher status, secure subject knowledge and a proven ability to improve pupils’ learning and achievement.
  • Is a practising Catholic with a commitment to the Church’s teaching and the mission of Catholic education.
  • Has the knowledge, enthusiasm and leadership skills to strengthen RE and inspire colleagues through their own example.
  • Can support and challenge colleagues sensitively, building confidence and sharing practice in ways that improve teaching.
  • Has high expectations of every child and adapts teaching effectively for pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and those learning English as an additional language.
  • Builds positive relationships with children, families, colleagues and the parish, and communicates with warmth and clarity.
  • Is reflective, organised and committed to safeguarding, professional learning and the Teachers’ Standards.

We can offer:

  • A happy, calm and welcoming Catholic school where relationships matter and every child is valued.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to children’s learning, faith and future.
  • Supportive colleagues and a dedicated Local Governing Body with high aspirations for our school.
  • A working environment where staff feel valued and respected.
  • Personalised continuing professional development to strengthen your teaching and leadership.
  • Opportunities to collaborate and share practice across the St Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Academy Trust.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
